Welcome to the website for the Cumbria Steam Gathering which takes place annually over the last weekend in July.
The dates for your diary this year are Saturday and Sunday July 27th and 28th. Gates open at 09.00 and close at 17.00 each day.
It is usual to have some form of entertainment taking place at intervals in the main arena throughout the show, normally something petrol powered and death defying, but this year, to quote Monty Python, we have “Something Completely Different” as Joseph`s Amazing Racing Camels will be forsaking their natural habitat in the desert regions of deepest Nottinghamshire and making their way north to Cumbria.
This will be the first occasion that the camels have travelled to the South Lakes; we hope that they will not be affected by the unpredictable Flookburgh weather!
In addition to the usual displays of some of the finest examples of preserved vehicles and machinery, we have this year introduced an additional class for working industrial equipment and we are looking forward to some impressive muck shifting demonstrations over the weekend as well as the usual cultivation, haymaking and wood sawing activities (all weather permitting).
Other attractions include the spectacular kite flying display arranged by Smile Factor 10, everybody`s favourite, the Pantonic All Stars Steel Band and, after a successful debut despite the weather in 2018, the Vintage Village Tea Room where visitors can have a nice sit down, a cup of tea and a cake.
Ricardo will be on hand to entertain young and old in the craft marquee and the very popular food hall will feature a fine selection of some of the best local produce.
Numerous catering franchises will be on hand and the various trade outlets will be only too happy to help should you feel the need to shop. For those looking for an elusive part or special tool to complete a restoration project, a visit to the extensive autojumble section is a must.
We will again be running our popular two day tractor driving course where youngsters aged 13 to 16 can gain experience of the basics of safe operation of farm tractors under the supervision of our experienced trainers. The course is limited to eight participants and takes place during Friday the 26th and Saturday the 27th of July.
